Stephen Krzyston represents clients in criminal and personal injury cases as an attorney at Cavanaugh & Thickens, a law firm in Columbia, South Carolina. Holding a JD from the Charleston School of Law, Stephen Krzyston has also undergone postgraduate training at the National Criminal Defense College, where he studied cross-examinations and completed the Trial Practice Institute program.

For more than 35 years, the National Criminal Defense College (NCDC) Trial Practice Institute has welcomed criminal defense attorneys for an intensive 2-week program designed to enhance their trial skills. NCDC’s flagship program, the Trial Practice Institute comprises lectures, demonstrations, and small-group exercises covering various aspects of trial defense.

Participants are separated by experience level into groups of 14 and benefit from the instruction and feedback of accomplished faculty members, including state and federal public defenders, private-practice attorneys, and academics. Enhancing the realism of the exercises are interactions with clients and witnesses who are portrayed by professional actors.

Previously held for more than 30 years at the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, the Trial Practice Institute moved to the Roger Williams University School of Law in 2019. Along with the Trial Practice Institute, NCDC offers a well-regarded cross-examination workshop, in addition to other learning opportunities focused on specific aspects of trial defense.
